Sad Passing of Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh

We join a lot of people in offering our condolences to the family and friends of Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh on his sad passing today.

The GPA stated “He had a voice that conjured up magic; he created masterpieces with his words; and he enhanced memories for generations”. Sentiments we can all agree on.

Mícheál was kind enough to present medals at our Junior Championship Celebration dinner dance in 2013. It wasn’t his first presentation and definitely not his last, but you didn’t get that feeling from him. He left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to sit beside him or chat to him on the night- in English and Irish! He had magnificent stories and asked so many questions with genuine interest. Mícheál arrived just after the dinner had been served but The Hamlet Court ensured he would still be looked after. They didn’t bat an eyelid either when he requested the dessert before the main course!

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
